The Bible Does Not Say - But ...
by berrygerry inpainfully reading an article of may 15, 2015 (extra-simplified edition) and again observed this phraseology: the bible does not say, but .... so, did satan hope to tempt her with the luxurious palaces of pharaoh and abimelech?
did satan think that she would betray her husband and even jehovah by marrying one of those kings?
the bible does not say, but it is very likely that the devil would have been overjoyed if sarah had lost the opportunity to become part of the messiahs family line.. .

'No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.'
Many have been hurt by the practice of shunning. Family members, [former?] friends, etc. My questions are these.
Though these ones have shunned you or are doing so presently, would you sacrifice your life to save theirs? Has their behaviour changed the way you really, deep down, care for them?

The poor and deprived life of JW children.
by Esse quam videri ini find it hard to believe that adults on this forum make such a big deal about not celebrating birthdays, x-mas, easter, halloween, etc, etc, etc.
i grew up as a jw kid and it actually made me feel good, being different from the other kids in school.
we went to meetings.

I want to thank everyone for their interesting comments. Each one has a valuable story to tell. My intention was not to demean, belittle or diminish anyone. I certainly did not throw my opinion out there to fish for provocative comments. If and when I have time I will address some of comments made. We have much to teach each other. -

What happens when an elder bullys witnesses, both young and old
by fulltimestudent inmental and physical intimidation (bullying) while young increases the probability of mental illness as an adult.
that's the conclusion of a recent study.. "bullying may be more scarring than child maltreatment because while society recognizes child abuse as a serious problem, and supports its victims, people just don't see bullying the same way, wolke said.
"there're still people out there who think that bullying is a normal rite of passage you go through and toughen up, etc.," he said.but bullying leaves people with poor self-esteem and a lasting sense of distrust of other people, he told live science.

Give it back to these bullying elders in spades. Caleb's mother provided us with the best righteous 'beat down' of all.
Mom: '.. you don't want to make Jehovah sad, do you?'
Caleb: '.. No.'
Mom: ' ..I don't want you to make Jehovah sad either...'
Now back to your 'bully elder'.
scene #1
You: Brother Bully, I noticed you parked too close to the lines in the parking lot. Now someone will have to fight to get their car door open. That will make Jehovah sad. You don't want to make Jehovah sad, do you?
Br. Bully: Hunh? No.
You: I don't want you to make Jehovah sad either.
scene #2
You; Br. Bully, I noticed you didn't properly wipe you feet when you walked into the Kingdom Hall. Now someone will have to clean up after you and that will make Jehovah sad. You don't want to make Jehovah sad do you?
Br. Bully: Hunh? No.
You: I don't want you to make Jehovah sad either.
scene #3
You: Br. Bully, I noticed you didn't look up all the scriptures with the speaker during the public talk. You looked up 6 but missed 4 others. If you set a bad example to the congregation it will make Jehovah sad. You don't want to make Jehovah sad do you?
Br. Bully: NO !!!!!!!
You: I don't want you to make Jehovah sad either.
You get the idea. Be creative, use your imagination, always looking for a lesson to teach Br. Bully.
How can anyone argue with your logic? It wins every time. It's perfect WT speak. You are always the righteous one, always on Jehovah's side. Pick a bully and ride him. Drive him into the ground. Give him a good taste of his own medicine, but in a nice, theocratic way.

Don't Miss the Meetings - Hebrews 10:24, 25 Re-examined
by Oubliette ini recently got an unsolicited lecture from a well-intentioned but nevertheless misguided jw friend.
the gist of it was that i needed to go to all the meetings or i would miss out on "everlasting life.".
i responded that i do not need to go to meetings to have a relationship with god.

I find it hard to believe that adults on this forum make such a big deal about not celebrating birthdays, x-mas, easter, halloween, etc, etc, etc. I grew up as a JW kid and it actually made me feel good, being different from the other kids in school. I had something they did not. We went to meetings. I gave my first bible reading at age 7. My Mom had the Congregation Servant [no body of elders then] come down and open up the Kingdom Hall on a Monday night so I could practice giving my bible reading from the platform. I read the whole thing in front of my Mom and the Brother several times. The Brother patiently waited until I was finished and my Mom said it was ready. My Mom encouraged me and gave me some pointers. Then we went home and I was excitedly waiting for Thursday's school. On Thursday I walked up the steps to the same platform and read the Bible just like I practiced with my Mom a few days previously. Exhilarating, exciting, mind blowing for a 7 year old. What kid at school got to experience that? I had magazine routes where the woman on Halley St. would take every Awake and Watchtower I brought to her. I have no idea if she ever read them and the Brother that accompanied me never asked her anything. I did all the talking, explaining to her about the good points of the magazines, just like I had practiced and even written down. She always paid me, full rate of 5 cents each, and thanked me for coming. What kid in school got to experience the feeling I had on those Saturdays? Sure I liked staying home some Saturdays and watching Spiderman cartoons, BUT, I never, ever, ever, ever, ever, [is that enough to get my point across?] ever missed birthdays, x-mass, etc etc etc. My family was together, I had 3 brothers that I really liked being with, my Mom took care of us, my Dad was super, [not a Witness, but liked them all and they all liked him], went on holidays every year, watched Hockey Night in Canada with my Dad on Saturday nights,[Toronto Maple Leafs were His team so of course they were the best], went swimming on Monday nights, Book Study on Tuesday nights etc etc etc.
Was I an unhappy kid because I did not celebrate all those x-mas, easter, birthdays, etc, etc, etc.? No, no and again no.
If you are an adult and feel you had a deprived childhood, grow up and get over it.
